Pinting Technique: Salt the Beermat

Does this happen to you? How embarrassing. Excess condensation causes the beer mat to stick to the bottom of the glass. This happens most frequently with cheap faux beer mats. But don't despair - you can avoid this awkward occurrence by following the next two steps!

First, set your pint aside, exposing the beer mat below. (Don't worry, the pint comes back into play very soon.) Apply a small amount of salt, perhaps a few shakes' worth, ensuring the salt is evenly spread across the surface of the beer mat.

Now replace the pint on the beer mat. Reach for the glass and lift the pint. You'll find that the salt buffers the moisture, thereby curing the sticky-beer-mat problem. Drink away, while trying to conceal your smug facial expression!
