Starting from the rich wood-pannelled exterior, Allen's is a beautiful spot to enjoy a pint. It's an upscale pub in front, and a restaurant in back. On the wall to your left is the chalk-board listing of Allen's impressive selection of bottled and on-tap beers. So if it sounds this good, why isn't Allen's the Jewel of the Danforth? Because it's a little cliquish. There's a sense of belonging and entitlement among the regulars, and it's fed by the staff. We watched as two regulars shooed away a couple of unsuspecting newcomers from a plum spot at the bar. The regulars explained to us later that the newbies clearly didn't realize that the bar corner was "their" spot. Allen's is still a highly recommended spot, nonetheless.
